Winter activities

Illawong is primarily a cross-country skiing lodge in winter. In winter, the Lodge provides non-perishable food and fuel. Members and their guests bring their own sleeping bags and personal requirements.

The Lodge represents a wonderful location from which to access the Main Range, in both summer and winter.

There are many trips around the lodge that can be attempted by beginners and the less experienced. Plenty of practice can be had on the front slope to the north.

From Illawong Lodge, experienced skiers can access the main Range or attempt a number day trips including Mt Tate, Blue Lake, which begin by crossing the Snowy River at the swing bridge. For the fitter and better skiers, more difficult and challenging trips are possible, including to the two highest peaks in Australia (Mounts Kosciuszko and Townsend) and steep descents off the western faces.
