Food and fuel for the year is carried into the Lodge from Guthega – no small task. This is also the time that maintenance is carried out on the lodge. It therefore requires “all hands” to prepare the Lodge for the ski year ahead.
People wishing to join Illawong also often come to the Annual General Meeting (held in May) or other social occasions. Only members can book accommodation at Illawong, but members’ guests are very welcome and make up part of many parties staying at the Lodge.
The Booking Officer often puts people wishing to stay at Illawong in touch with members who are resident when there are vacancies, so that they can stay as the member’s guest. This is a good way to get to know if you would like to become a member, or even to make new skiing friends.
How do I become a member?
Membership criteria include having stayed at Illawong Lodge in winter or summer, having taken an active part in at least two work parties, supporting the values in the club’s rules and being known among members of the club. New members need to be accredited, or have attended an accreditation course to familiarise themselves with the lodges systems.
The formal procedure to join Illawong begins with submitting a completed nomination form to the Secretary of Illawong. Your nomination is referred to the Illawong Committee at its next meeting.
You will be notified of the result of your application. The entrance fee and annual subscription is payable with 28 days of postage of the notification.
