Illawong member booking information

Illawong Lodge with a snow gum and washing hung out the front

Illawong Lodge is managed and maintained by Illawong Ski Tourers under a licence agreement with the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water. Every Easter, members and friends restock the Lodge for winter and carry out maintenance tasks. Throughout the year, Illawong's volunteer committee works to keep the Lodge and its systems running smoothly.

Things you need to know when making a winter booking:

  • An accredited lodge leader needs to be present during your stay.

  • The safety guidelines are essential reading for a safe and enjoyable stay at Illawong Lodge.

  • How to get there.

  • The facilities available at Illawong Lodge.

You can find out everything you need to know about staying at Illawong Lodge here.

If you would like to stay at Illawong Lodge, you can also contact the honorary booking officer.

How do I book for a 7 day week?
  • These are the rules:

    • In the first booking round, weekend-only bookings (Fri-Sat) are allocated first. This is to encourage weekend use.
    • To request a 7-day week in first round bookings, nominate a week followed by a weekend (i.e. Sunday – Saturday) but not vice versa. You will need to pay the full rate for both a week and a weekend.
    • If a weekend is not allocated during first round booking period, it is open to anyone to book and pay for at full weekend rates.
    • If after 30 July there are still winter vacancies, a party with a week booking may book the weekend before or after their booking and pay for only one of the two weekend nights.
Do children need to become temporary members?

If you are a member, you don't need to complete the Under 18s temporary member form for your children or grandchildren if they are staying with you - they count as 'Illawong' for the purposes of tariffs and Illawong/Public percentages. All other children staying without a parent or grandparent need to have a parent/guardian complete an Under 18s permission and temporary member form.

Is the ALL responsible for a non-member party which books at the same time?

experienced in back-country skiing carrying a pack.

What we ask you to do is:

  • If you can, contact the non-member party beforehand to arrange to give them a key either at Guthega, or at the Lodge. We are not planning to post keys to non-members.
  • To arrive at the Lodge before they do, so you can start up.
  • To look after the Lodge while your parties are there.
  • To leave the Lodge at the same time or after they do, so you can close down or hand over to the next party.

You are not expected to ski with the other party, to cook for them, or actually be in the Lodge at all times when they are there.

The booking officer will try to help you here. We'll all need to play this by ear a bit, but this is the quid pro quo for Illawong Ski Tourers continuing to enjoy the access that it has to the Lodge.

Do all adults complete a Prohibited Persons Declaration?

Yes, everyone over 18 needs to complete this form to accompany their first booking at Illawong after 1 Feb 2010. They can send direct to the booking officer, or through the person booking on their behalf.

Another form is only needed if circumstances change. See the form for full details.

How many can I have in my party?

If you are a member, you can book all 8 places, provided there is a member among the party who is an Accredited Lodge Leader. If a non-member is making a booking, we encourage a maximum of 4 so that another party of 4 containing an ALL can be found for that period.

Does every non-member in my party need to complete a temporary membership form?

If you are a member and you are booking a party which contains non-members:

  • Each adult member of the party needs to complete a temporary membership application, unless they fit into the 'Illawong' category i.e. spouse, partner, child, grandchild, parent.

  • If they are under 18 and their parent/guardian is staying, no, whether or not they fall into the 'Illawong' category.

  • If they are under 18 and their parent/guardian is not staying with them, the parent/guardian needs to complete the Under 18 application form, which includes a permission form.
